All you need to know about Private Colleges
Private Colleges/RTO's/Private Providers
These are all names for organizations that offer a range of Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses. Some now offer Degree courses and some courses are eligible for FEE-HELP from the Government to assist with payment of fees.
These colleges offer practical/vocational courses usually involving work placement in the industry. This gives students the opportunity to make contacts in the industry and to gain valuable work experience as well as qualifications.
Using qualifications gained at these colleges, students may later choose to apply to go to university.
These are generally more practical and "hands on" courses than theoretical such as many university courses. You will also enter the workforce earlier.

Most colleges do not require a certain UAI to get into courses but most do require an interview.
You can gain a lot of practical experience through the courses and work placements. This means you develop valuable skills, employment contacts and offers of full or part time work are common.
Courses are usually more intensive than similar TAFE courses ie shorter duration.
Some colleges guarantee to help you find employment at the end of a course.
You can choose to go on to University and gain qualifications at degree level if you wish.
Some now offer Degree courses.

Fees may be required upfront and may be expensive when compared to other alternatives such as TAFE.
You may or may not be able to use HECS or FEE-HELP to pay for the course. Some colleges have facilities or arrangements with banks for student loans and the facility to pay off fees in instalments.
Some colleges have better reputations within the industry. (This also applies to some universities.)
Make sure you check that the college and their courses are accredited & recognised.
